Q&A
How will this work in Clackmannanshire?
A group of up to 50 local residents will brought together to form a citizens’ panel called Community Voice. Training and support will be provided to make sure that everyone who takes part is ready and able to participate.
From the overall panel a series of smaller groups will meet to discuss specific topics, these groups will help to identify priorities and review proposed areas for investment by our Fund.
Who will be on the citizens’ Panel?
Anyone can apply to join the panel. We are keen to hear a broad range of views and backgrounds represented, and are particularly interested in hearing from those who have not taken part in anything like this before.
Those with lived experience of the issues we are looking to address, including poverty and welfare related issues will be particularly important to our panel. We firmly believe that they will best understand what solutions will work, and know how best to intervene early.
What would I need to do?
Join meetings when called upon. This could be for a couple of hours or up to half a day. Work, learn and share with others in a collaborative and constructive way. Bring all of your ideas and experience to help everyone living in Clackmannanshire
Why are panel members paid for taking part?
We believe that when we ask people to share their experience and expertise, their work is as important and valuable as our team’s – everyone’s input is needed to succeed. This means that, like our team, they are paid fairly for their work. By ‘fairly’ we mean:
- Paid at a fair rate and not being out of pocket
- Being paid quickly
- Paying in ways that work best for people
Our commitment is that we will:
- We will pay you for your time, at a rate above the Living Wage (more than £15 per hour).
- We will also work around you, offering translation, costs of childcare, travel and other things that make it easier for you to join
What will citizens’ panel members be paid?
Taking part of this work will mean doing different activities that take different amounts of time. So, we will pay according to your input to make sure your work is properly recognised. We have used Scottish Government guidance to create our payment rates. For example, we will pay:
- £50 for an hour of work
- £90 if people join us for a two-hour activity.
- £120 if they join us for a whole morning or afternoon.
- Between £180 and £280 if they work with us for the whole day.
We understand that it’s not always clear about how payments might affect benefits. We can’t advise you ourselves but we can connect you to people who can. Please don’t assume that being paid might be a barrier – let’s explore it with you.
Will I be paid expenses?
In addition to paying for your time and expertise, we will also cover costs that mean you can participate including childcare, transport and interpreters.
How quickly after the meeting will citizens’ panel members be paid?
We will pay by bank transfer, which is quick and secure, within 7 working days of agreeing the amount. We’ll provide a record that the payment has been made, how much was received and what it covered. If a bank transfer isn’t possible we can pay you using vouchers.
